A Toronto digital artist created an app to allow visitors at the Art Gallery of Ontario to experience paintings in augmented reality

Traditional paintings in the Art Gallery of Ontario receive a modern update where viewers have the opportunity to experience them in augmented reality through an app called ReBlink. When a viewer opens the app and points their device’s camera at a painting, the image comes to life on the screen. Not only do all of the paintings move, they each have a unique modern twist—like a selfie stick or a smartphone in hand. The app was created by Alex Mayhew, a Toronto-based digital artist.

Any visitor interested in heading to the Art Gallery of Ontario can download ReBlink in advance. The app works on both iOS and Android devices.
