EJTECH has created fabric speakers that let a wearer experience music through both sound and touch

EJTECH, an experimental art and technology company, has interwoven speakers into fabrics to create a multi-sensory wearable experience. The team calls the project Soft Sound.

The speaker is attached to the fabric by laser-cutting flat copper and silver coils with a current going through the material to provide the coils with a charge. While sound plays from the speaker, the wearer enjoys music as they normally would, however, they also feel the vibration of the sound through the fabric. The team plugged the speaker into an amplifier to improve the overall experience. By having the wearer experience sound through touch, EJTECH elevates a typical speaker to resonate on two different senses rather than only one.

These speakers could go beyond getting used exclusively in clothing textiles. With additional weaving techniques the speaker coils could get installed directly into everyday objects or the walls of a home.
