People in the same country who share the same language may not say things the same way, as a local dialect on one side of the country sounds different compared to one from another region. Sweden is known for its dialects, so its Coca-Cola branch decided to tap into them by creating a vending machine that accepts speaking in a specific dialect as a form of payment.

When the user walks up the machine, the Dialekt-o-maten, they press on the dialect they’d like to try and replicate by saying a certain phrase. Should a person successfully imitate the proper phonetics, they win a bottle of Coke from the machine. The voice recognition software installed in the Dialekt-o-maten checks for the person’s voice, tempo and tone as they speak the phrase.

Coca-Cola placed the Dialekt-o-maten in Stureplan, a central distinct in Stockholm, where a representative invited the public to give the machine a try.
