Wendy’s Twitter account is notorious for dishing our burns and clawbacks, especially at other restaurant chains, but Burger King is looking to use that reputation against them. In order to promote its new spicy chicken nuggets, the fast food chain is digging up tweets from fans who despaired after Wendy’s discontinued its version of spicy nuggets in March 2017.

By promoting these tweets, not only did Burger King get Wendy’s fans interested in its new menu item, but also harnessed the power of Twitter against a competing social media-savvy brand. The company is also running a billboard campaign announcing the product, meant to catch the eye of customers who are not always glued to their feeds. Wendy’s recently aimed its latest product and campaign against McDonald’s chicken tenders, but it might be time to go on the defensive and bring back the fan favorite.
