The Nike Epic Reacts are the result of three years of testing

Nike’s new Epic React sneakers offer a unique take on foam and computational design, aiming to ensure that they are softer and more comfortable than their predecessors. The sneakers are 11% softer and 10% bouncier than the LunarEpic Low Flyknit 2 sneakers.

The new sneakers are a direct result of three years of testing and over 400 attempted combinations. Using computational design, which is the use of mathematical formulas to create a “fluid geometry,”  Nike has created a shoe that has accounted for athletic data for optimization. The creation process examined athletes to best understand their movements, speed and force, and the result is a sneaker that is exciting, not just for potential buyers but for Nike executives as well.

The shoes don’t just look great, they live up to the expectations. When given a pair of the Epic Reacts that had been worn for at least 500 miles, the average tester’s guess for the shoes’ mileage was only around 15 miles.

The Nike Epic Reacts will be available on February 22.
