Airbnb has launched a complete renovation of its offerings, including new luxury accommodation tiers, event-specific collections and more property types—all measures to ensure quality control and a higher level of detail to fulfill individual guest needs.

The company announced the changes on its website last week. Airbnb Co-Founder, CEO and Head of Community Brian Chesky said, “10 years ago we never dreamed of what Airbnb could become. In fact, people thought the idea that strangers would stay in each other’s homes was crazy. Today, millions of people every night do just that. But we want to go further by supporting and expanding our community so that in 10 years time, more than 1 billion people per year will experience the benefits of magical travel on Airbnb.”

Airbnb has increased its property types from its somewhat limited Shared Space, Private Room and Entire Home to include a Vacation Home, Unique Space, B&B and Boutique. These additions allow for the accommodation of all kinds of travelers, whether they’re traveling on business or pleasure, alone or with family. The company also included “Airbnb Collections,” opening up the possibility for event-specific lodging, such as weddings, dinner parties, social stays or honeymoons.

To top it off, the platform has taken a giant step towards hotel territory by creating luxury tiers Airbnb Plus and Beyond by Airbnb, which recognize exceptional hosts who can up their prices and single out unique stays. The Plus category already has 2000 homes in 13 cities that underwent a verification process “against a 100+ point checklist covering cleanliness, comfort and design.” According to Skift, this classification is currently by invitation only. To be invited, hosts first have to earn the superhost title, which means receiving consistently good reviews and high ratings. Beyond will be launching in the spring, as a result of the company’s purchase of Luxury Retreats. According to the announcement, this tier “will offer custom-designed trips of a lifetime, including the world’s finest homes, custom experiences and world-class hospitality.”
