Panda Express Celebrates Chinese New Year With Special Packaging

The Chinese fast food chain has created a special set of cups and takeout boxes that highlight traditions surrounding the New Year

Chinese New Year is on February 16, and families are preparing for the festivities. Fast food chain Panda Express is celebrating the holiday with new designs for its cups and takeout boxes. Designed by artist Jing Wei, these new items feature illustrations of New Year’s traditions, such as a dragon dance, the handing out of red envelopes full of money, eating oranges and noodles and spending time together with the family.

The packaging is all in red for good luck, and the kid’s meal packaging even features the number 8, signifying fortune, made out of noodles. In a video produced by Panda Express, Wei discusses how important the holiday was to her family and how she grew up eating Panda Express herself.
