In Brief

To celebrate Earth Day, Adidas created Major League Soccer jerseys out of recycled plastic for all 23 teams to wear

Adidas and Major League Soccer decided to celebrate Earth Day together by creating uniforms out of plastic waste recovered from the ocean. Adidas has been working with Parley for the Oceans to upcycle plastic and protect the environment with products like sneakers, swimwear and a yoga line. The brand collaborated with MLS on limited-edition soccer jerseys that will be worn by all 23 teams in the league the weekend of Earth Day (April 20-22).

Parley for the Oceans collects plastic from beaches and coastal areas, before it hits the ocean. The group then uses it to create fibers, called Parley Ocean Plastic, that companies like Adidas can use in their products.

Besides getting MLS players to wear these jerseys, they will be available for fans to purchase at Adidas and MLS online stores. It’s a perfect opportunity for consumers to participate in the broader initiative Earth Day 2018 – Ending Plastic Pollution.
