Owners can select their gas pump, receive a code to unlock it and begin to fill up

Gone are the times when you have to climb out of your car’s warm interior at the gas station—or, at least those times will be significantly shorter. Car manufacturer Chevrolet and motor-oil company Shell have collaborated on Chevrolet’s new Marketplace in-car app store so you can pay for gas from the driver’s seat. With just a few taps on the dashboard touchscreen, you can select your gas pump, receive a code to unlock it and begin to fill up. The cost will be debited from a pre-saved payment method.

The app will also allow you to find nearby gas stations, research their amenities and sign up for Shell’s fuel rewards program. Though the program is currently only available on select Chevrolet models from 2017 and onward, more than 4 million vehicles are expected to have this option by the end of 2018.

Currently in its trial phase in Detroit, Seattle and Houston, the service is expected to make its way to 14,000 Shell stations across the country in the next few months.
