Fashion retailers can often find themselves toeing a delicate line of carrying the latest, trendiest items while also keeping stock under control to maintain profitability. Nordstrom is turning to technology to tackle this challenge by partnering with NuOrder, a cloud-based ecommerce solution that aids the relationship between retailers and suppliers.

NuOrder is a growing service that already works with a number of lines Nordstrom carries like ASICS, Theory and Lacoste. The retailer is using a NuOrder platform that offers overviews of available as well as already-accumulated inventory, helping it strike a balance between not having enough and dealing with excess merchandise while maintaining on-trend stock. The service is also collaborative, helping the retailer closely work with the brands supplying its merchandise to better manage the flow of goods.

The platform not only makes product selection easier for Nordstrom’s buyers, but also allows customers to look into the process. The goal is to help better inform consumers about what the latest products are and the sort of items the store will be carrying each season.

Ultimately, the service aims to help Nordstrom identify gaps in its assortment of available items, as well as take opportunities to focus  its buying power on key merchandise it may otherwise not have known about. Its implementation comes as part of the retailer’s overarching strategy to incorporate more digital technology into its infrastructure.
