Not unlike b8ta's tech-oriented concept stores, Simon's Launchpad retail platform will highlight a curated selection of new products, serving to gauge consumer demand as well as provide experiential shopping to incentivize mall visits

As the way consumers shop continues to evolve, shopping malls are changing their business models to find new means to thrive. Simon Malls is hoping to incentivize foot traffic by providing shoppers with perpetually renewing inventory with its new Launchpad series.

According to a press release from Simon, Launchpad is a “scalable retail platform for both emerging and established brands to pilot new products and expedite the hottest new trends,” at once helping attract customers with choice selections as well as giving retailers the opportunity to highlight their merchandise and bolster their business. The store-within-a-store concept will focus on innovative tech products curated by Simon’s team as well as feature a permanent virtual reality portal and a mobile-enabled gaming console, providing an interactive shopping experience to attract customers.

The Launchpad stations are also designed to help to gauge consumer interest in and demand for these products. Simon’s VP of specialty leasing explains, “Items that sell extremely well will quickly migrate to another location outside of Launchpad. If the product does not sell to a satisfactory level during the trial period, we will immediately return it and test the next product on our list.” Launchpad will be featured at six of Simon’s malls during the holiday season.
