As D.C and Philadelphia emerge as leaders in retail innovation, these wellness-based spots are a must-see for locals and tourists alike

For a metropolis so often overlooked, the mid-atlantic region is ripe with opportunity for retail: The Atlantic has ranked D.C. among the top 10 cities in the world for venture capital investment, and Technet recently named Philadelphia among the top 20 emerging startup hubs in the country.

In a region that is only increasing in size, the wellness and fitness industries remain crucial as support structures for a  growing population of overworked entrepreneurs and busy employees. Accordingly, the PSFK Research team compiled a list of some of our favorite active lifestyle hubs within the D.C and Philadelphia areas:

Take Care | 1338 Wisconsin Ave NW
While the front half of independent beauty retailer Take Care is dedicated to showcasing its selection of natural beauty products, the rear half of the store houses ‘Workwell,’ a wellness-oriented coworking space. In addition to shared office space, members can enjoy perks like yoga sessions, an aromatherapy bar and access to healthy snacks to support focus and balance.

ROAM Fitness | Baltimore Washington International Airport
ROAM Fitness is a gym and wellness center located behind security at BWI Airport, designed specifically with traveler’s needs in mind to ensure they can maintain their health and fitness goals. It features everything travelers need to conveniently workout while on the go, including lockers large enough to fit carryon items, display boards with flight information, complementary workout gear rentals and reservable showers with premium toiletries.

Underground Spa & Wellness | 1 Logan Square
The luxury spa Underground, housed in the luxury Logan Hotel, released a line of treatments centered around CBD-infused products like lotions and balms meant to create a holistic state of relaxation. Treatments include CBD body and scalp massage and CBD manicures and pedicures.

Eaton DC | 1201 K Street NW
Eaton DC is a hybrid hotel and coworking space with a social activist bent. Its amenities include guest rooms, a communal workspace, a wellness center, a radio station, artist studios, a theater, a rooftop bar and a library stocked with radical literature. Each guest room is also stocked with a toolkit with stationery so guests can write to their members of Congress. Eaton DC is part of Eaton Workshop, a global purpose-driven company at the intersection of culture, media, hospitality, wellness and progressive social change.

Mason & Rook Hotel | 1430 Rhode Island Ave. NW (Through August, 31, 2019)
As part of their ‘Stay Human’ initiative, which lets guests book specially designed experiential rooms at its various hotels, hospitality brand Kimpton is offering a special ‘Work It!Room’ at their Mason & Rook Hotel, designed to create community among guests through shared empowering, interactive activities. In partnership with Vital Voices, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting female leadership, the room will house a library of feminist literature, a communal Spotify playlist that guests can add songs to, and a ‘power pose’ photo area.
