Ad-Rags’-Ad-Blogs-A-Review Pt 1

List of Ad Rant Ad Blogs And Our Review (Part 1)

Coudal.com – Design firm hits us with some in-depth opinions and daily shout outs.

Saatchi Kevin – The guy who runs Saatchi & Saatchi. Guess there was once a project that set all this up. Lots of POV but the fact there’s an article about the US Consumer 2001 illustrates that this isn’t a living breathing blog.

Influx insights – Influx is a think tank specializing in brand positioning. Fairly frequent posts highlight compelling issues but limited analysis involved.

Partners and Simons blog – Several staff have dated blogs with infrequent posts with little to say.

JayDay – An employee of the late Jay Chiat writes a personal blog about what-not and ex-employees of Chiat Day. We couldn’t even be bothered to find the URL when we proofed this post. Avoid.

w+k blog – An intimate blog about Weiden and Kennedy London, the staff and the work they produce. Pretty cool.

BlogFonk – Dutch site actively maintained. Has a combination of information to keep you in touch with Fonksta thoughts. Views and interviews.

Werbeblogger.de – German language blog on European Marketing. Looks pretty fresh and fun. From breitenbach und partner.

Ad Agency Blog – Dated Personal Blog. Don’t bother.

TBWA Portugal – Another intimate blog by staffers at the big agency: Ad news, comment and general thoughts.

AdWeak – Fairly frequently updated piss take of the ad industry. But that’s all.

Paolo Vanossi – I’m sure Paolo Vanossi had the best of intentions in creating a blog on marketing, online advertising, management ideas but if he’s not going to bother to update it why has he left it up? Ignore.

caffeinegoddess – Frequent posts about marketing and advertising by the caffeinegoddess. Varied and sprinkled with a good dose of attitude. Well worth subscribing to the RSS Feed.

Trademark Blog – Ahhh, a blog with a different focus on the business. Martin Schwimmer’s blog is valuable if you still believe Trademarks and Copyright is something that can last the near future. Which we wonder.

Adrants – A favorite. Frequently updated Ad Industry journal. It’s on our RSS list but the ads all over the place do I our bloody heads in. Therefore: Best to read the headline in your RSS aggregator and guess the rest.

Creative generalist – A personal blog with varied interests. Ad Rag loved this but we got just got bogged down by all that text and switched off.

Texturl – Brandon Barr’s personal site is well conceived with thought through commentary on issues of today. Early finder (and analyzer) of cool campaigns.

consumerwhore - Tongue in cheek site looking at all things consumer that hasn’t been updated in ages. Delete from list.

Snarkhunting – Regular analysis of names and brands with in-depth features into pop culture products and phenomenon. A little arrogant, very niche.

Steve Garfield vlog – Self promotional site centered around Video Blogging and that’s about it.

webmaster republic.it – Nice looking creative industries focus: arty, tangential, varied, European/Italian-Englishish. It’s just cool, OK. Makes us want to put it in our RSS Feeder.

Ad blog by John Kuraoka – A copywriter’s text only ad blog reporting on worldwide issues facing creative advertising. We know it’s all about words cos he’s a writer like but first impression is that it’s a bit dull.

Life(?) of Trillian – We guess there’s a cult who dig this personal adventures in ad land. “Then I met a man. The Man. Him.” Enough said.

The hidden persuader – Short razor sharp post from Portugal. On our RSS list ever since they referenced PSFK in a post. We love **** ****ing.

Duncan’s Ad Land – Hyperactive and ethical reviews and criticism by someone who watches ads rather than works in ads. And from the other side of the world. Nice.

Wishful Thinking in New York – An amazing blog by one of our contibutors that has nothing to do with advertising. Just falling down drunk by the look of it. Or getting fired. Must read! ;)

Russel Davis – Personal rants from a planner from w+k planner blogs. Some really cool stuff here that makes us wonder, ‘why haven’t we noticed that.’ Superb.

AD HOC – Personal site about goodness knows what.

ad bêtise – Whoever decided to put such nagging thoughts and considerations down in weblog form in March must have used up all their pent up angst and decided never to need to blog again. Someone should archive these posts onto their site and then delete this blog.

ENCYCLOPEDIA HANASIANA – A detailed personal blog that covers everything from media to interesting/important people who have died. Even though it had little to do with our research, the writing made us want to read every post ever made on this blog. Then cry.

Cameron Moll – Cool personal rants with a design focus.

CreativePost – A kinda Josh van Rubin cool hunting jah(!) from Holland, Added to our RSS feed immediately.

themixingbowl – Fun, tangential thoughts and reflections from a bod in advertising.

Screen Arts – A weblog for the Screen Arts community of NSCC to help enjoy, understand and make films.

BrandMantra – Hugely popular and highly respected blog by Jennifer Rice who Ad Rag calls, ‘Queen of Branding, Marketing and the Ecology of Business’. Already one of our RSS Feeds. Some popularity may be attibutable to the photo she posts of herself.

Brand Autopsy – Well written posts on brands and current issues.

inluminent – Fairly personal site with sexy lady on the masthead and discussions on web/tech related subjects. Enough info?

Adverblog – News sites scouring the web for news on web and mobile marketing. Efficient but lacks a little personality.

Nate Elliott – Jupiter Analyst Nate Elliott gives her views on web/tech news. Pretty insightful stuff & original(!).

Hypulp – A graceful site for a niche: The influence of the digital economy on print design.

mmeiser – Self promoting blog with thoughts on the wide and varied subjects that interest Michael Meiser including branding, identity and current business topics.

Brand Suicide – Indepth critique of online ads. Great blog. Nice niche.

Chris Ray blog – A mix of commentary on web and business topics. Reminds us of us a little.

Media Savvy – Barry Parr rants on and on about the online media space and more. Good stuff.

RexBlog – Regular rant blog focused on magazine publishing and anything else of interest.

Outdoor blog – Infrequent blog on outdoor advertising. Not worth the click.

The Media Drop –News, media, sport. How does anyone have the time to write all this stuff?

The Big Smoker – Supposedly a cinema, music, technology and design but more like commentary on London news and events. Looks great and a possible RSS. Nah, maybe not. Looks cool tho.

Octopusdropkick – Bits, bobs, media, politics, what’s going on. Fun. That sort of stuff.

PSFK Trend – Simply amazing. ;)

ad.ville – Was a sort of site of ad postings from various people. Delete.

Speak up – A sort of blog about someone visiting exhibits and what they think about them. Maybe we got a bit too tired to appreciate this one.

Blogs at Fabrica – Lots of creative people, some of whom shouting lots of things.

B) Not on the list? Were you featured on Ad Rants list? Remember this is Part 1.

C) Not on the list? Never was? Leave a comment and we’ll add you to our next review. Maybe even our left hand column if you’re trend-like.
