Mobile Internet Calls

by Piers Fawkes

Psfktelecom_1 A report in The Wall Street Journal speculates that cellular operators are interested in using cellphones that have Internet calling capabilities via Wi-Fi.  Motorola Inc has already indictaed that they will soon start selling the first phone combining the two technologies.

Such phones would use Wi-Fi to connect to the Internet when in range of a high-speed connection, such as in a phone or office, but then use cellular technology when out on the street. About 1/3 of cell phone calls are already dialled from home or an office.
