USA Today reports on Walmart’s considerations for the rebuild of stores in a number of hurricane damaged communities in Mississippi. A team of advisors are calling for "new urbanism" which means the return to old-fashioned town design that encourages people to walk from home to the stores. Walmart will meet the team in January and listen to proposals such as Walmart Village (apartments, condos and townhouses built around a giant store) and Downtown Wal-Mart (where the store has an urban street front facade rather than a stripmall front.

To put it clearly I really think that this is really bad!
It makes me think of the whole “Reedy Creek Business Improvement Treaty” initiated by Disney for their Celebration Town back in the days.
I think a companies attempt to involve into urbanism especially in the regions that suffer from severe hurricane damage should be blocked.
