Walmart To Consider New-Urbanism

By Guy Brighton on November 15, 2005

USA Today reports on Walmart’s considerations for the rebuild of stores in a number of hurricane damaged communities in Mississippi. A team of advisors are calling for "new urbanism" which means the return to old-fashioned town design that encourages people to walk from home to the stores. Walmart will meet the team in January and listen to proposals such as Walmart Village (apartments, condos and townhouses built around a giant store) and Downtown Wal-Mart (where the store has an urban street front facade rather than a stripmall front.
