Frank Gehry Takes On New York

by Guy Brighton in Architecture

2005_03_gehry"New architecture… is now happening in New York as it hasn’t since the Lever House-Seagram Building-Guggenheim Museum fifties," a recent New York magazine claims. And one of the leading architects in this momentum is Frank Gehry. Across the world archtect Frank Gehry has left sublime structures but he hasn’t yet tried his hand at New York City. Frank’s not just building one Gehry, or two - he’s building 19.

His first building will be the InterActiveCorp’s headquarters on the West Side Highway, his next will be a 74 story apartment tower at the southern feet of Brooklyn Bridge. (We know it’s your first ’scraper Frank - but 74 floors!).
