AOL Launches Community Edited News, Diggers Start NetscapeBombing

By Piers Fawkes on June 15, 2006

AOL has launched a community sourced and edited news site under the Netscape banner. The project was concepted by Jason Calconas who created Weblogs Inc (now an AOL company). Like our very own Marktd, users can go in and submit links to news content in an array of popular categories. Other users then go and vote on that content – and the most popular rises to the top.

Some users of the original community edited news service Digg don’t seem to like the idea one bit. They’ve stated NetscapeBombing the AOL site with articles such as “AOL Copies Digg” – the Top Story when we last checked.

Meanwhile, Digg plans to launch the next version of their site in 3 weeks.
