A Million Penguins : Communal Novel Writing

By Piers Fawkes on February 1, 2007

Penguin seem to be one of the most progressive book publishing companies we know when it comes to using the web. We’ve featured Penguin several times on these pages. Today, Jeremy Ettinghausen from Penguin dropped us a line about a new project Penguin are doing where they’re using a wiki platform for a communal novel writing exercise.

I thought you might be interested in an experiment we’re running from Penguin UK – a collaborative creative writing exercise using a wiki. Anyone can write, anyone can edit and we’ll be providing a running editorial commentary on an accompanying blog. We’re not sure how this will turn out, but hope that it will be interesting and fun for anyone participating (or just reading).

The blog starts as follows:

It had snowed, and was now raining. The pavement was covered with gritty slush, while sharp crystals of snow still decorated the grass. There was definitely no possibility of taking a walk.

.. who knows what will take place next when Guy Brighton gets on the case and adds a little, eh? ;)
