Inspirational Shopping: Te Casan

by Orli Sharaby

One of our favorite retail experiences has to be going to Te Casan on West Broadway in NYC. The shop, open for about a year and a half now, has created a new - and quite inspired - retail model. Founded by an Israeli tech mogul with an eye for fashion, Te Casan features footwear designed by 7 young artists of different nationalities, all plucked from the ranks at major labels like Alexander McQueen and Dries Van Noten. Each designer creates several limited edition styles per season (we think something like 200 pairs of each are produced), which sell for around $200-300 — much less than one would normally pay for such quality and uniqueness.

Though Te Casan is already an admirable retail venture which promotes grassroots talent and follows some kind of sustainability plan, it’s now getting into the business of vegan footwear. A collaboration has just been announced with Natalie Portman, who will be designing a line of completely animal-free shoes for the label, to debut in February.
