Vigilante Journalists Expose The Hidden Side of the Law

By Dan Gould on August 4, 2008

Jimmy Justice and Steven Hirsch are journalists whose work exposes the complex legal system. Dealing with crime, perception of right and wrong and ideas of justice, the two use their blogs and Youtube as platforms to explore the legal spectrum.

Steven Hirsch, a freelance newspaper photographer, spends his days at the Manhattan Criminal Court building interviewing people coming out from their hearings. He lets the subjects tell their story of why and how they got arrested. Most people attest to their innocence, but many freely admit their guilt.

Jimmy Justice (a pseudonym) hunts down and video tapes New York City police officers breaking the law. Usually it’s something small, like parking illegally and making u-turns where they’re not supposed to. His mission though, is to expose the double standard. He asks: why is it ok for the officers of the law to bend the rules, when they would hand out a ticket to a citizen in the same situation?
