SnapTell Explorer is an interesting piece of software that uses image recognition to match real world products to online information. The free iPhone application gives you near-instant product lookup from simple photographs. Just take a picture of the item you want, and bingo - the approproaite links will pop up on your phone. The search works by either matching the image with SnapTell’s database, or by reading text contained in the image to conduct a search. Reviews have been pretty positive, noting that even images taken under adverse conditions (low lighting etc.) have returned good results.
