Electrolyzed Water: Miracle Cleaning Fluid Made From Water & Salt

By Dan Gould on February 26, 2009

Electrolyzed water is a basic mixture of tap water and salt which is transformed by an electric current into a kind of miracle liquid. This special water can be used as a cleaner that’s surprisingly effective and completely non-toxic. Depending on the process, two different cleaners can be made out of the water salt mixture. One is an alkaline liquid that cleans and degreases, and the other is a potent disinfectant which is claimed to be  10 times more effective than bleach in killing bacteria.

The only real downside to this amazing water is that it doesn’t have a very long shelf life – it looses its potency quickly, and the machines that make it are expensive (about $10,000 a piece). Let’s hope we see this technology shrunk down to a home-sized version soon.
