A small 82cmx82cm square of dirt has been created to represent a “dead pixel” in Google Earth by artist Helmut Smits. He burned out the square from a patch of grass, which would look like a non-functioning pixel at a vertical distance of 1km.

  2. Anyone else find this kindof thing to be a pretentious waste of time? I mean, ooo, you burned a square into the ground. I’m sure that severely taxed your limited imagination, coming up with that. Good job.

  3. Dude burned some grass to create what would be a pretty neat easter egg in google earth. I dont really think thats pretentious and it is actually pretty imaginative. He integrated the cyber world into the natural world in a pretty clever way. Just my 2 cents

  4. I find Rasmus Larson to be pretentious actually.

Obviously sees things at such a simple level.

  5. beg your pardon Rasmus, I mean asdf

  7. i’ve worked with many pixels that size in my line of work.
    trust me, no shop here.

i've seen many shops in my day.
  8. this isn’t a waste of time, it looks like it only took a solid afternoon’s worth of work… and hell, I know I’ve done profoundly lesser projects that lasted longer than an afternoon.

  9. How F%$^&*& stupid is this??? Nuf said, I guess. Whoa, I rhymed!! SWEET!!!

    All Me. All Day...
  10. All Me. All Day…, Where was the rhyme in that? “This” and “Guess” do not rhyme. The whole dead pixel idea is really cool. I say congrats.
