Call it recession beating manna from the fashion heavens, or just great marketing, women in NYC should definitely be keeping their eyes peeled this coming week as designer Rachel Nasvik will be hiding around 90 handbags in and around the city.
The bags will be “left” anywhere from club restrooms, to taxi cabs, to park benches, and are filled with night life staples like bobby pins, condoms, matches, tarot cards, designer accessories, lipgloss, and Thea Grant key chains.
For those of you who are wondering how you’ll differentiate between a Rachel Nasvik “abandoned bag” and a genuine lost article, each planted item will contain a tag which reads “You did not find this bag; this bag found you. Lucky” and a planted URL will link to the NYC designers site.
The locations of the bags have been hinted to be on the trendier side ( prime suspects right now include American Apparel, Santos’ Party House, and other NYC nightlife hubs). Those participating in the ruse include bar owners, newsstands, even ” shifty-eyed knockoff vendors shilling them for $20 apiece”.
However, to increase your chances of finding one of these beauts, be sure to check Nasvik’s twitter page frequently for clues on their location.

Umm…does anyone else think it’s a bad idea to leave handbags all over the city? New Yorkers are supposed to call the police if they see an abandoned bag in a public place.

That’s why it has a special note inside with information- so if you see something don’t say something. Though if this was a year or two ago i’d say scrap the whole idea unless you wanted to give 90 beautiful handbags to homeland security.
