Lifehacker reports that Microsoft is considering shipping Windows 7 on tiny flash drives instead of discs. One main consideration for the possible change is the proliferation of netbooks without any kind of CD or DVD drive, making a USB transfer a logical choice.. It sure seems like a great idea, both for the convenience and the eco-friendly lack of packaging.

I’m not sure that shipping software on silicon chips–which are one of the most polluting products to make–is actually eco friendly. As leo said, downloads are probably better, if not bio degradable packaging.
