Polaroid Will Return

We’ve reported previously on the Impossible Project, an attempt to manufacture the iconic Polaroid instant film after it was discontinued. Now it’s been reported that the new owners of the Polaroid brand will team up with The Impossible project to bring the product line back to life. Cameras, film and instant printers are scheduled to be available sometime in 2010.

  1. I must say this is a great article i enjoyed reading it keep the good work.

  2. It’ll be interesting to see what sort of cameras they come out with since the film is probably going to be reasonably pricey (~$20 for a 10 pack is my guess). Polaroid lost it in the first place by cheapening their product with crappy plastic-y cameras, hopefully they will produce something good quality (glass lens, adapter ring, flash, some degree of manual control) instead of cheapening out. The other issue with Polaroid integral film (which I am a huge fan of) is that it is very wasteful, each film pack contains a battery that is tossed out after the pack is used, a roadmap for figuring that out for future versions of the film and cameras would be very welcome.

  3. Zink Imaging seems poised to take over the instant print photo market, although their instant prints are digital. I’m glad to hear that Polaroid film will be back soon – there really won’t ever be anything else to truly replace it. I hope Polaroid doesn’t try to update the film, but leave it’s iconic look as it has always been…
