The theme of this year’s Gallery 1988 “Under The Influence” show is Masters of the Universe. The popular 80’s cartoon and toy line acts as the inspiration and visual basis for over 100 artists, who all add their own spin on the classic characters. Some stay true to the heroic, action-and-adventure style, while others morph the warriors into strange, cute or banal versions. The show’s concept makes for an interesting and fresh interpretation of iconic figures, exploring alternative and hidden facets of their universe.
Previous Under The Influence shows featured the Beastie Boys and Stan Lee as inspirations.
The show opens January 8th at the Los Angeles location of Gallery 1988.
