(Pics) Advertising Does Good: The Carlisle Train Station’s Makeover

By Dan Gould on February 26, 2010

A recent advertising takeover of the Carlisle train station in the UK has had unexpected results.

As part of a television ad for Homebase – a home improvement store – the waiting room and a platform at the station were transformed into a colorful lounge and garden.

Though these type of advertising stunts can be easily forgotten, this one seems to have struck a nerve. Surprisingly, patrons of the station started a campaign on Facebook to save the improvements. It’s reported that over seven thousand people signed up to keep the station the as a Homebase-inspired lounge. Unfortunately the decorations were eventually taken down.
