Using Candy Machines To Encourage Guerrilla Gardening

Using Candy Machines To Encourage Guerrilla Gardening

By Naresh Kumar on March 31, 2010

Los Angeles based design studio CommonStudio is selling vintage candy machines, fitted with seed bombs that can be simply tossed into spaces to renew their greenery. The seed bombs are a mixture of clay, compost, and seeds and put into a candy dispenser which is then placed at a strategic location such as a park or a school. Under this GreenAid project, the studio will supply a seed packet suited to the unique ecology of the area where the candy machine will be placed. The creators of this project say that GreenAid is an effort to make guerrilla gardening more accessible to all.

The studio has put up a test model in Los Angeles’s Chinatown, filled with indigenous seeds.
