(Infographic) What Is Voluntourism?

From ChaCha comes an interactive infographic that exhibits the act of volunteer travel and tourism–dubbed voluntourism. The history of the movement, which has been growing since the early 90′s, can be traced back to the to the United States Peace Corps and Volunteer Service Overseas, but is changing in recent times to include “luxury” and ecotourism trips to offer hands-on philanthropy to a broader audience.

Among the voluntours of the world, many activities fill the time, with 22% teaching abroad, and another 22% building, while 18% of individuals have spent time working in community development.
