The Coolidge Corner Theater in Boston has taken an intriguing approach to enhancing the theater experience by marrying it with scientific lectures. The series is called Science on Screen and speaker’s topics relate to the films being exhibited. The next upcoming event will have Jonathan Shay PhD, MD an expert on combat trauma and an advocate for veterans speak before a screening of Full Metal Jacket.

Now, according to BoingBoing, the Science on Screen series will be able to expand to more theaters in the country because of a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Compared to other attempts to cultivate a filmgoing experience, the series is not only more engaging, but also relatively cheaper. Tickets are just under 10 dollars and they are free for members.
