Converse All Star Pixels [Video]

By Emma Hutchings on May 18, 2011

The creative agency Perfect Fools developed an impressive hybrid of digital tech, retail installation and art. They created ‘The Canvas Experiment,’ an interactive, fully-functional digital screen for Converse, made up of 480 half-red, half-blue Chuck Taylor All Stars.

Each All Star is powered by a servomotor, which enables it to rotate up to 180°, controlled by three synchronized servers. The Chucks act as pixels and respond to sound, creating a visual display. A guitarist and a drummer were invited to play in front of the giant pixel installation, and the All Stars can be seen moving to the music.
