Rainbow City: AOL & FriendsWithYou’s Urban Playground [Pics]

In a novel collaboration, AOL and whimsical art collective FriendsWithYou are coming together to create an “urban playground” in New York City. From the press release:

In June 2011, to celebrate the opening of Section 2 of the High Line, AOL is presenting Rainbow City, a collection of colorful, inflatable sculptures by FriendsWithYou, a world-renowned Miami-based arts collaboration. Situated on 30th Street and 10th Avenue between June and July, Rainbow City will create an urban playground that invites New Yorkers and visitors to walk in and around the sculptures. Rainbow City will mark the first large-scale interactive installation by FriendsWithYou in New York City.

AOL and FriendsWithYou’s partnership began in 2010 at Art Basel Miami, the location of Rainbow City’s debut. The New York launch is an extension of their collaboration, which will include an exclusive pop-up shop that will sell AOL and FriendsWithYou merchandise and host a series of free educational programs geared toward children’s creativity. In an effort to reach a global audience, AOLArtists.com will host the main digital experience for Rainbow City. Following the opening of Rainbow City, AOL.com will feature a canvas collection created by FriendsWithYou for AOL.
