Shapeways Launches 3D Printed Glazed Ceramics

Designers can now upload custom food safe products to be printed with a high gloss finish.

Shapeways, the creative site that turns designs into 3D products, has introduced Glazed Ceramics as the latest material available for creating objects. For plates, cups, bowls and other tableware, these products have a high gloss white finish and are food safe, recyclable and heat resistant. Gijs de Zwart, a Shapeways community member and designer, explains the benefits:

Ceramic has always been considered a valuable and durable material in many cultures and, therefore, it means a giant step for 3D printed products.  After silver and polished SLS, this is the third material from Shapeways that can easily compete with other manufacturing methods in terms of surface finish, and will therefore be attractive to both designers and consumers.
