Launched by a franchisee in Alexandria, Virginia this new format for Subway is designed to be a cross between a sandwich shop and coffee bar. The Subway Café will offer baked goods, hot and cold espresso drinks, hot and iced chai lattes, hot chocolate and frozen blended drinks in addition to their standard menus.

Customers will be able to drink their coffees in a relaxing setting, with comfortable armchairs and lounge-style seating, brick or wood paneled walls and a cosy fire.

Having been piloted in 15 other locations, the company hopes to expand to 10 more by the end of the year.  They believe this new format will benefit those franchisees looking to open in office buildings and more high-end locations.
