Artist Ryan Chapman collaborates with sustainable design team Grove to create Submarine adorned iPhone cases

In their ongoing collaboration series, Grove (a group of environmentally-minded artisans) has teamed with artist Ryan Chapman to create a submarine adorned wooden iPhone case. The design is laser cut into bamboo which Grove uses due to its status as the fastest growing plant in the world as well as for its natural beauty. Each of the cases is handmade using a process of milling, filing, sanding, lining, etc. All Grove products are made in Portland, Oregon using sustainable methods of production in an effort to avoid reliance on the exploitation of the third world labor. Previously, we saw Grove collaborate with MapleXO and artist Lindsay Holmes to repurpose old skateboards to turn into limited edition iPhone cases.

Chapman’s submarine is the featured design of the week, but several other designs are also available in the series. Besides the woodcut iPhone case, each of the designs is also available as a wallpaper for the phone. Custom designs are available as well. The initial price $89 for a artist’s design, $69 for a plain wooden case and $109 for a custom case.
