Palo Alto-based Retailigence has developed an open API that allows developers to connect brick and mortar product listings and availability with local real-time inquiries. Participating retailers can use the open API to upload their inventories to a database that allows their products to appear in the results of local search queries. For example, partner mobile application Pic2Shop has used Retailigence’s API to connect those scanning or manually entering the barcodes of a product with its availability and location nearby. Since November 2010, more than 350 cross-platform mobile phone applications have signed up for the Retailigence local product API.
