Macy’s Launches New Web Series ‘Wendy’

By Emma Hutchings on September 12, 2011

Macy’s has partnered with Alloy Entertainment (the producers of The Vampire Diaries) to create a new web series called Wendy. Launching on September 15th, this is a modern-day take on the classic Peter Pan story, set in L.A. The six-part series stars Tyler Blackburn (Pretty Little Liars) and Meaghan Martin (Disney Channel’s Camp Rock). Department store Macy’s is heading the series in return for some product placement and brand promotion. The main characters will be wearing Macy’s clothes in each episode and there will be pre-roll ads and a “brought-to-you-by” message.

Wendy is part of Macy’s mission to produce more digital entertainment. While web series haven’t been hugely successful in the past, they are hoping that the well-known actors and movie-like production values will draw an audience. Also, Macy’s has been promoting the show extensively over the past few weeks on the air. Alloy Entertainment has launched a Facebook page and will promote the series on its web sites and its in-school news network. Wendy will be distributed on Macy’s MStyle Lab, Alloy’s YouTube channel and Facebook.
