Seasonal affective disorder, often refereed to as SAD, is a mood disorder that results from the lack of sunlight. Many people, especially office workers, have SAD during winter months when days are shorter. To counter this problem, Finnish designers have come up with the Valkee device which shines light directly into your ears.

The Valkee device looks like a MP3 player and includes a set of light-emitting in-ear headphones. Each earbud contains fiber optic lights and it’s claimed that by using it just 10 minutes a day can cure SAD. A group of scientists from University of Oulu in Finland conducted two clinical trials and found that 92 percent of the subjects completely recovered from SAD after using the Valkee 8 to 12 minutes a day.

If you like to give this portable light device a try, you can purchase it on the company website for around $300 USD.
