‘Shoebox’ lets you capture old photographs, crop them, rotate them, and add notes, dates and tags.
Shoebox, the free iPhone app from the people behind online photo service 1000 memories, lets you scan and share vintage photographs. The smartphone app has edge detection and perspective correction to make sure that your photos look their best. Scanning them with your iPhone’s camera produces a high quality image that you can crop, straighten, rotate and add details to, such as a caption, description, date and tags.
These photos are then saved on your iPhone and on 1000memories, where you can share them for free with your family and friends, or post them to Facebook and Twitter. The images on 1000memories are backed up and preserved forever through a partnership with the Internet Archive.
There are trillions of photos out there, waiting to be shared with friends and family, but getting them online has traditionally been difficult and time-consuming. By putting a scanner in people’s pockets, we hope to change that and make it incredibly easy and social for people to digitize and share artifacts from their pasts.
