Philippe Starck Designs New Lamp With An iPhone, iPad Charger

By Dave Pinter on January 31, 2012

The most notable introduction from IDS12 in Toronto last week came from Italian lighting manufacturer Flos. The company showed the D’E-light table lamp designed by Philippe Stark which merges a functional light fixture with mobile digital devices. Incorporated into the shade of D’E-light is a charging dock for iPod, iPhone and iPad devices. The shade is designed with a backrest so even the larger size iPad can be used while docked.

The light is generated from a small 2700K Flat Panel source which can be dimmed by touching the end plate of the shade. There are no visible switches and the lamp itself looks like a solid piece of polished aluminum.

Flos cleverly took advantage of the charging function by displaying multiple lamps on a long table within their booth in the convention center and offering free device recharging for visitors.
