3D printing marketplace Shapeways and social sound platform SoundCloud are offering 3D printed custom iPhone cases based on your favorite piece of audio. This fun new way to experience sound inspires further innovation in 3D printing, with “sound you can touch.” The fully customizable case, called The Vibe, can be designed using Shapeways’ web app.

Users select their favorite sound from SoundCloud, by either recording or uploading it, and the waveform will integrate into the very structure of the iPhone case. This results in a unique protective case, available in white or black 3D printed plastic. Any sound can be 3D printed on the case, whether it is a favorite piece of music, a child’s first words, or the noise of NYC rush hour traffic. CEO Peter Weijmarshausen said:

We are really excited to let anyone design their own personalized iPhone case with their favorite sound. The Vibe is literally sound you can touch! This is yet another example of how Shapeways is enabling personalized production using 3D printing.

The Vibe iPhone Case launches at a promotional price of $19.95 through to March 18th, and after that date it will cost $24.95.
