Were you aware of a hotel in Kenya where giraffes visit you everyday throughout your stay? No, it’s not as passive as riding in an overland truck on Safari and “oohing and ahhing” as animals pass you by – what Giraffe Manor offers is a completely immersive wildlife experience. At Giraffe Manor, guests enjoy the unique chance to interact with its resident herd of Rothschild Giraffes, a rare breed which are among the world’s tallest creatures.
The manor is part of the conservation project for the endangered Rothschild giraffes. Previous owners, Leslie-Melvilles discovered the giraffes were in danger of being slaughtered by the local Kenyan government, and decided to convert the manor into a giraffe sanctuary. The current owner has transformed the manor into a luxury hotel in conjunction with continuing the conservation process.
Located on 12 acres of private land only 20 kilometers from Nairobi, and built in the 1930s, the interior decor has taken much if its inspiration from the era. The manor’s large veranda and terraces give guests the opportunity to hand feed the friendly giraffes at eye level. While breakfast is served the enormous windows are flung open so that the giraffes may come and join you. Like a dream come true for those seeking a memorable Out-of-Africa travel experience.
