The Detroit Bus Company is launching a new program called ‘WeRide’, which gives one person in need a free ride every time someone buys a ticket. So those who purchase a seat on a regular route, tour or private rental with the company are also donating a ride to another Detroit citizen.

These free buses will transport those mose affected by the changes in public transit availability. Using the Buy One-Give One model, people will be able to directly contribute to the rebirth of their city and its citizens.

With the current state of our transit system, riders are waiting up to three hours for a bus that might not ever show up. Some routes are cut entirely, stranding whole neighborhoods and leaving them without hope. While we can’t give every Detroiter a job, we can sure get them to every interview and shift thereafter on time.

The bus company states that it will welcome riders each morning with coffee and donuts, picking them up at their homes and dropping them off at their destination so they don’t have to stand out in the cold.
