Yonder Biology’s ‘Dino Pet‘ is a fun and renewable toy that photosynthesizes during the day and glows at night. The “new kind of pet” requires indirect sunlight and then gives you a great light show when it gets dark.
The company aimed to present biology in a fun way and teach kids about nature by creating an interactive toy. The pet contains ‘dinoflagellates,’ a species of marine algae that emit a blue-green light in response to mechanical agitation (shaking).
A Dino Pet can live for 1-3 months and you can extend this period by adding Dino Food (a supplemental growth medium) which can be purchased from Yonder Biology. By regularly adding Dino Food, they can live indefinitely.
Those in the U.S. can secure a Dino Pet for a pledge of $40 on Kickstarter. The campaign has already raised half of its target amount of $50,000. You can check out the campaign video below:
