The brand’s new app, Disney Infinity: Action!, uses augmented reality to bring animated characters into user’s videos.
Disney Infinity: Action! is the mobile app component of the upcoming Disney Infinity console game, released in the App Store on August 15th in anticipation of the release of the core game on August 18th. As a combination of game and video creator, the augmented reality app allows users to create unique videos by placing animated characters and objects within real footage, in real time.
Guidelines on the screen facilitate correct placement of a surface, object or person, and the video is recorded with the outline of the animated character or object showing its placement in the final product. The three available characters, Mr. Incredible from The Incredibles, Sulley of Monsters, Inc., and an animated version of Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, each come with a distinct set of actions, some of which can be used in the videos for free, and some of which must be unlocked through in-app purchases. The game also includes a number of animated objects with which the characters can interact, such as trees, a car and a ball. Completed videos can be saved to the mobile device, shared via email, or uploaded to Facebook or YouTube.
