Resource Furniture combines beauty with functionality to design pieces that fit into almost any space.
As part of the Reconfigurable Furniture trend from our Future of Home Living report, which looks at how a new range of DIY kits and technologies are making the process of envisioning and producing custom products and designs accessible to anyone, regardless of space or skills, PSFK Labs has identified the following example.
Resource Furniture continues to redefine the possibilities of urban living with a line of space-saving furnishings hand-selected for their ability to transform a space with both beauty and functionality. Pieces like the Goliath console/dining table extend from 17” to 115” utilizing an embedded telescoping mechanism. When paired with the company’s Pocket chairs, which are only 2″ deep when folded, a homeowner could easily accommodate a dinner party for eight. The Cubista ottoman provides seating for up to five individuals, with removable padded sides that can attach to one of four bases nested inside the structure. These could also be paired with a Goliath, pictured below. Resource Furniture’s goal is to change the way consumers and designers think about space.
Space-saving furniture companies such as Resource Furniture fall under a larger theme we’re calling Adaptive, which examines how customizable solutions for the home are being designed to accommodate a wider range of needs throughout the day and week, bringing greater functionality and flexibility to urban lifestyles.
PSFK has announced the latest in a series of trend reports. Following studies into retail, social media, gaming, work and mobile, the PSFK Labs consulting team have generated the Future of Home Living report. That report manifests as a free summary presentation, an in-depth downloadable PDF and an exhibition in New York City that runs to August 16.
