Designed by Yesign, the “Eye Of The Storm” is a faceless watch that is intended to tell time during nighttime outings and other social events where lighting may not be optimal. The German design studio originally developed the watch as a concept for internationally recognized Red Dot design award.
Yiran Qian wanted to build a watch that resembled the eye of a storm. The EOTS’ faceless center was inspired by the calm and quiet core of the storm. Qian envisioned a watch design that recaptured that silent magnificence, while proving to be a one-of-a-kind timeless masterpiece.
The watch is entirely black until the wearer presses the button; then the time is illuminated with small lights. The design was inspired by three factors: many people are sensitive to the metal parts of watches (especially in combination with sweat); reading the time on a watch does not actually require the centre part, so valuable material can be saved; and such a design could be considered unique and attractive.
Without the use of minute and hour hands, the EOTS utilizes LED technology to display the time of day on the outer ring of the watch dial. The watch is designed to withstand beverage spills or any liquid damage — it’s completely waterproof. There is also an internal housing for the battery and a rubber strap for flexibility.
The EOTS is approximately $112 and is available for purchase on the Yesign website.
