PetChatz aims to assuage the guilt that pet parents are all too familiar with when they have to leave their furry friends at home for any extended period of time. While not the first device that enables remote interaction with pets, the PetChatz system is unique in its two-way communication system and ability to dispense treats and scents.
The device is installed in any electrical socket, conveniently at most pets’ eye level. Once connected to the home wifi network, owners can ‘call’ their pet using a unique ringtone, through the web-based or mobile interface. The two-way video can also record clips, which can then be shared. Owners can dispense treats and release special ‘Scentz’ via scent pads that can be customized according to the animal’s favorite smells.
The device is scheduled for release in early 2014, when it will be available online and in select specialty stores throughout the U.S. The company is currently accepting pre-orders, at a price of $349.
