An enigmatic purple was selected for the coming year.
The much-anticipated announcement of color authority Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year was made yesterday, December 5th, with Radiant Orchid 18-3224 being the selected hue. Executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, reveals that the shade ‘encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.’
The announcement was brought to life through the creative work of Pantone’s agency of record, Sub Rosa, a New York-based design and innovation firm. The concept for the campaign was to use playful and dynamic imagery and objects that would highlight the diverse applications of the color.
Pantone has been influencing the creative industries, ranging from graphic design to fashion to interior design, through the Color of the Year selection since 2000.
